Rendcomb College Senior School - Rendcomb Life

At Rendcomb, boarders and day pupils are not separated: pupils share a House depending on which year group they are in. We welcome a range of boarding permutations, from day girls who board occasionally, and flexi-boarding, through to weekly and full boarding.

Girls in forms 1 and 2 share Godman House, while the boys in these years share The Old Rectory; Lawn House is for girls in forms 3-5 while Stable House is for the boys in forms 3-5; and pupils in the sixth form share the co-educational Park House, with its univerisity style accommodation.

The Houses are comfortable and well-equipped. Pupils in forms 1 and 2 share dormitories for company, while all other, older pupils have individual study-bedrooms. They have privacy when they need it, or they can spend time with friends in their own common rooms, games rooms, and kitchens (where snacks and drinks are available throughout the day).

Day pupils may leave Rendcomb College after activities at 5.15pm Monday - Thursday, at 4.20 pm on Friday and after games at 4.00pm on Saturdays. Weekly boarders can leave Rendcomb College after games on a Saturday and return to school on Sunday evening or Monday morning. They are welcome, however, to stay for the weekend to join in activities when they wish. Many Day pupils use the Rendcomb College bus service from the Swindon and Malmesbury areas.

Our partnership with parents is crucial A parent's first point of contact with the school is through the Housemasters and Housemistresses. They work closely with parents to help children become independent and sociable individuals. Parents and Housestaff can and do communicate regularly over all matters, great or small.

Sisters - fully qualified nurses - are available day and night to deal with health and welfare issues, while the school doctor's surgery is located in Rendcomb village, and there is a school counsellor. Also on the team are the tutors and staff attached to each House: together we look after all aspects of the health and welfare of our pupils.

Social back to top
"Having fun is central to a child's development"

Rendcomb's social scene is bursting with life - there is always something going on or in the pipeline: whole-school events such as concerts, plays, discos and balls; individual House or year events like parties, meals out at local restaurants, even Rocky Horror Show parties for the sixth-form! The sixth-formers also have their own bar, with lounge, dance and games areas attached.

Rendcombians, whether day or boarding, are encouraged to participate fully in all social events and in the whole community. The College is a central part of Rendcomb village, and the village Post Office is also our tuck shop.

Weekends back to top
"Weekends are special at Rendcomb"

Each weekend Rendcomb offers a variety of events and activities for those who choose to stay for them, both on Saturday evenings and on Sundays. Normal lessons take place on Saturday morning with sport in the afternoon. There may be a big school event, such as a disco or concert (classical or rock!), or there might be a trip to any number of places: the theatre or cinema, a restaurant, a shopping mall, a bowling alley, paint-balling centre, ice rink, horse trials, a wildlife park or an adventure playground, or even somewhere like Alton Towers.

Other entertainments include big-screen film showings, takeaway meals, supervised use of the sports facilities or dips in our open-air pool if there is the weather for it - or whatever else the boys and girls want to do: all suggestions are considered. Otherwise pupil's time is their own: to join in the organised activities, to catch up on work or just to rest.
