Rendcomb College Senior School - Sixth Form Life "Rendcombians have a sense of responsibility - Ordered freedom" Entry into the sixth form represents an important and challenging watershed in a student's education - and, central to this experience is our sixth form house at Park which opened in September 2001. We see the sixth form house as pivotal in enabling students to make the transition from GCSE pupils to young adults within a supportive environment - not one governed by rules in the oppressive sense but rooted in the reasonable expectations that one might have of young adults. As pupils move through the school, they are encouraged to participate fully in the whole community, take responsibility for themselves their belongings, the studies and their behaviour. Senior pupils grow to accept leadership roles in the Houses and eventually prefectship. The importance of university entrance is clearly paramount for our sixth form students and there is no doubt that with our excellent careers and further education advice service, students can choose their future with confidence. This, together with our outstanding A level results, mean that Rendcomb students invariably secure a place at the university of their choice. Sixth Form students participate in our life skills programme, including car maintenance, cooking, basic DIY, and personal financial management. These skills can be applied during the two weeks that each member of the Upper Sixth spends in the newly refurbished sixth form flat, living with other students on a limited budget, shopping, cooking and hopefully, washing up. We also offer students our enrichment programme, including management days focussing on skills such as leadership and team work, communication and presentation, problem solving and decision making. A visit to a local business to be put through a rigorous job application, CV building, interview and selection process. Life in the sixth form is vibrant and offers a diverse range of experiences that stretch far beyond the classroom. Pupils take part in trips to the theatre on Friday evenings, or sixth form debates, visiting speakers, a dining club, and the annual sixth form ball. There is an active Social Committee to organise and promote the running of sixth form social events, the house committee to oversee the running of the sixth form house and to generate and develop ideas to improve the well being of sixth form community, and the bar committee to run the sixth form social centre, offering students genuine opportunities to show initiative and take control of their own lives.
At the end of the Sixth Form, the Leavers' Weekend gives parents and students a chance to celebrate the time spent at Rendcomb College.
Ultimately, we encourage pupils to develop a sense of responsibility and a mature view of life that gives them the confidence to face the challenges that face them in future.
