Sixth Form Life
Rendcomb offers an environment where excellence is nurtured within a safe and supportive community. When the time comes to make choices about the future, pupils receive individual support from their tutor and the Head of Sixth Form.
Sixth Formers can choose subjects from a developing and evolving curriculum, offering exciting new subjects and the chance to think outside of the box in the Extended Project Qualification and the Gold Arts Award. They develop leadership skills through Sport and Outdoor Education and even get a taste of life beyond school at our Sixth Form House in the village where Upper Sixth pupils take on the challenge of independent living, managing their time, balancing a food budget and even cleaning their own clothes!
The new state of the art Performing Arts Centre now provides yet more opportunities as a space where the arts, debating, public speaking and conferences can be showcased.
The Head of Sixth Form leads pupils through the university entry process and oversees a programme which includes the highly regarded Elevate study skills course and a Careers Fair, which has previously welcomed the CEO of UCAS as a special guest. A large proportion of our pupils choose to attend Russell Group or Oxbridge universities and we encourage them to consider opportunities from further afield including Europe and the USA before making their final choice.
Joining our Sixth Form
We hold a number of events throughout the year for students wishing to join our Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form Information Evening provides an excellent opportunity to meet each Head of Department, subject teachers, Houseparents and their pastoral team and also our current Sixth Formers. This event usually takes place in November each year and is open to students in Years 10 and 11 and their families.
Throughout the year taster days are organised for students in Year 11 to experience a typical day in the Sixth Form. The next taster day will take place on Friday, 12 October 2018.
To attend our Sixth Form Information Evening and our taster days, please contact the Admissions Team on: firstname.lastname@example.org or 01285 832306 and they will be delighted to put the arrangements in place.
Choosing A Levels
A huge amount of support is given to students joining Rendcomb's Sixth Form community including advice on choosing the right subjects. We expect the majority of our students will go on after A Levels to Higher Education. The choice for students is enormous with many thousands of degree courses on offer in over two hundred institutions in the UK. We help students to make choices through a comprehensive planning programme that begins in Year 10. For students joining the Rendcomb Family at Sixth Form, the Head of Sixth Form, along with the Admissions Team, will be able to offer advice and guide each individual through the decision making process.
We offer each student a booklet on choosing the right subjects; this can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
Preparation for Life
The aim of all aspects of the Sixth Form at Rendcomb is to prepare students for adult life; pupils take part in enrichment activities including a leadership programme and outdoor education all adding to a student’s portfolio of transferable skills.
The Sixth Form Green room
For two evenings a week, Sixth Form pupils have access to the Sixth Form Green Room which is located within the main College building. The Green Room provides a relaxed social space for our oldest pupils and includes a cinema area with games consoles, comfortable sofas, a pool table and a kitchenette.
